HEGLA: Machines from Kretzschau in the worldwide glass industry

HEGLA Maschinenbau, whose headquarters are in the Burgenlandkreis district of Saxony-Anhalt, is among the world’s market and technology leaders in its sector. Around 70 employees work at the location and contribute to assembly line solutions that are known in the glass industry for their high quality and technical level.

From steel workshop to high-tech company

HEGLA started out as a small workshop business in Kretzschau in 1990. At that time, the HEGLA Group from Beverungen (North Rhine-Westphalia) specialised in vehicle attachments and racks for glass, windows and structural elements. The new location was added to solidify the sales and service network and improve the business’ proximity to customers in the region. Over the decades, the factory continuously developed further and today the company’s product portfolio includes fully automated warehouses for large-scale panes and long-length storage systems for long goods. Since 2020, the vacuum lifters for glass produced in Kretzschau have been marketed under the HEGLA name. To meet growing demand, the sales team was reinforced and the devices were completely updated. “Thanks to the high level of commitment and technical expertise of our employees, we have experienced steady growth and are now an invaluable partner of glass processors,” says Managing Director Bernhard Hötger of HEGLA. “The location may have been originally planned as a supplier site, but today it is an independent part of our Group.”

From steel workshop to high-tech company

HEGLA invested in the future of the location again in 2020, when the production area was expanded. The new capacity is being used to develop and produce the company’s own products, as well as for assembling other HEGLA Group systems: for example, laser processing solutions from HEGLA boraident. With laser transfer printing, for example, it is possible to upgrade simple panes or windows with a bird protection function. In 2025, the company will once again strive to attract visitors and converse with customers old and new at numerous international trade fairs. Vitrum in Milan, WindoorEx in Saudi Arabia and others are already on the agenda.
