Make a great first impression with a professional glass-industry vehicle
Do you want optimised loading positions, greater flexibility and a professional, user-friendly load securing system for transporting glass? If so, you should consider converting your van into a glass-industry vehicle. These vehicles are used primarily to make day-to-day work easier for your staff as they deliver glass, windows and structural elements. But special glass-industry vans also play an important part in making a good first impression when visiting customers and driving through town.
Exterior racks as standard equipment for glass-industry vehicles
“Exterior racks are fitted as standard on delivery vehicles that are used for logistics and installation jobs involving glass panes, structural elements and extra-large formats,” explains Hans-Peter Löhner, Managing Director of HEGLA Fahrzeugbau. “This type of commercial vehicle can be used to complete almost any everyday transport job properly and professionally,” the industry expert adds. Mounted on the outside of the vehicle, the rack is easily accessible and even offers enough space for extra-large formats that won’t fit inside the van. It allows the installation team to position their load quickly, easily and without having to shift their grip. And securing the load is just as easy: The padded slat bars are held in position in the top and bottom hole pattern by a pressure tension system, which gives them the required stability and prevents slipping. To keep your loads even safer, HEGLA exterior racks also come with two lashing rails as standard, which can be used with lashing straps to hold the glass in place.
Our exterior racks for vans are between 2.50 m and 4.50 m in length, depending on the type of vehicle and the customer’s requirements. The loading height is usually 2.40 m and can be extended to up to 2.85 m using the variable height adjustment system. For those who wish to transport several windows or elements on the same glass rack at once, Hans-Peter Löhner recommends using a wider rack support.
Removable exterior racks for greater flexibility
If you’re looking for even more flexibility and user-friendliness, the easily removable variant of the exterior rack could be for you. This version of the system can be mounted on or taken off a vehicle in just ten minutes, so you can use your vehicle both with the glass-industry attachment and for personal trips. Removing the rack can also save on fuel, especially for longer journeys and jobs when it isn’t required – and it also makes vehicle care easier and allows you to attach the rack to another vehicle instead.
Almost all our customers order the exterior rack together with a roof rack, which can then be used to transport ladders or other installation materials for service call-outs. The rack comes with built-in steps to allow access to the roof, while an optional ladder roller is also available for easier handling.

Greater choice of loading positions and protected, in-vehicle transport
If you find further down the line that your work requires more loading positions, you can also install an interior rack in your vehicle. This will enable you to distribute your cut glass pieces, IG units and windows across your vehicle’s interior and exterior rack positions as each job requires, so you can access them all easily without having to move other parts of the load first. Many customers find our interior rack with folding or partially folding horizontal support practical for such situations. When folded away, this enables you to access almost your entire loading area and secure goods to the rack system if you need to. In-vehicle transport is especially useful for expensive and delicate materials, as it offers two great advantages: it protects the load from rain and damage from stones, and it also demonstrates to your customers the high degree of care and professionalism you invest in your logistics. For an even more user-friendly option, try our pull-out interior rack. This allows you to place sheets of glass on the rack at body height and slide them into the vehicle without having to climb inside. This significantly reduces the risk of damage involved in manual handling, and makes loading and unloading even easier.

Tool cabinet systems for well-organised performance
To make a perfect, well-organised impression with your customers, Hans-Peter Löhner recommends installing a tool cabinet system to keep your installation tools in their proper place. This will both help improve your performance at the building site and make the workflow easier when the same vehicle is used by different teams.
Other equipment options for glass-industry vehicles include trays, splash-guard tarpaulins, interior lighting and combinations of hole patterns and tie rods for additional loading positions. “Different people need different things,” the Managing Direct of HEGLA Fahrzeugbau stresses. “As such, it’s really important to speak to customers during the consultation and come up with the perfect design for their individual application.” After all, one of a fleet manager’s trickiest tasks is making sure their vehicles have the right equipment for the job.
We work closely with vehicle manufacturers when developing our transport racks. At the customer’s request, conversion can be carried out in a single day at one of three HEGLA sites in Germany.
